Background:

The Access Center for Human Rights (ACHR) is a non-profit, non-governmental human rights organization, founded and led by refugees forcibly displaced from Syria due to their pro-democracy activism. ACHR is staffed by refugees and members of the host community in the countries where it operates, including lawyers, journalists, and human rights defenders. ACHR is committed to upholding the rule of law and ending impunity. It is a non-religious, non-sectarian organization that does not align itself with any political parties in Lebanon.

Our mission is to document human rights violations against refugees, advocate for justice, and ensure the protection of their fundamental rights. ACHR engages in international advocacy to support the voluntary, dignified, and safe return of refugees to their countries of origin.

ACHR focuses on four key thematic areas:

  • Documentation of human rights violations against Syrian refugees.
  • Research to identify the root causes of these violations.
  • Advocacy to raise awareness and influence policy changes that protect refugee rights.
  • Accountability through legal mechanisms and public pressure to hold perpetrators accountable.

  • Duration: 6 months
  • Location: Lebanon – Remotely

About The Position:

Under the supervision of the Research Program officer, The Research Intern will be responsible for carrying out various research tasks and contributing to the drafting of written content using ACHR’s research methodology and its database. the Research Intern will be carrying out her/his duties in accordance with ACHR mandate and technically coordinating with the field team.

Job Responsibilities and Activities:

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Collaborating with the field team to collect primary data from interviewees.
  • Conducting desk research and gathering secondary data from various information sources.
  • Drafting written contributions and assisting with writing and editing content under the Research Program Officer’s guidance.
  • Contributing to the overall development and improvement of the work.
  • Assisting in designing questionnaires and interview questions for data collection.
  • Collaborating with team members to address research challenges.
  • Maintaining accurate and organized records of all assigned activities.
  • Participating in internal meetings.
  • Staying updated on relevant news and published research.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in law, human rights, international studies, or a related field.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex issues and advocate for refugee rights.
  • Ability to work effectively in culturally diverse environments with adaptability and empathy.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills for addressing research challenges.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage time effectively under pressure.
  • Proficiency with computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Comfortable using email, Zoom, MS Teams, and instant messaging as primary communication tools.
  • Fluency in Arabic and English (written and spoken).
